Increasing Representation of Women

Support for Faculty Searches

AdvanceVT reviewed research on the role of unconscious bias in hiring, promotion, and tenure decisions and prepared a brochure summarizing relevant findings.

Additional resources for search committees are also available.

Assistance for dual career couples is provided by the Department of Human Resources.

College liaisons meet with all faculty candidates during their campus visits to provide information about faculty development, work/life balance, and diversity resources.

Visiting Scholars

The Visiting Scholars Program is designed to support faculty recruitment efforts through building or expanding connections between Virginia Tech and outstanding scholars from other institutions. Financial and administrative support is available to invite outstanding junior or mid-career scholars to campus for short visits outside the usual recruitment process. Participation in the Visiting Scholars Program offers high visibility and broad exposure across campus to both visitor and host. This program has been expanded to include scholars of all disciplines, especially those from groups underrepresented in the professoriate or who could contribute to the scholarship of diversity at Virginia Tech as recommended by the University's Task Force on Race and the Institution.
